About Us

Our Success in Agro Business.

In the domains of agriculture, the community needs assessment program on sustainable agribusiness was realized in partnership with the US Peace Corps. This enabled both organizations to generate and source funding to support the sustainable livelihood projects that was developed to empower the communities. A piece of land was acquired to be developed as a demonstration and training site on sustainable integrated agriculture and agroforestry. Sound sustainable practices were valorized through workshops and other sustainable practices such as agroforestry and environmental education through education and capacity building activities.

The objective was to protect biodiversity and other natural resources. SOPISDEW continued to promote the conservation of critically endangered biodiversity hotspots like the Kilum Mountain Forest and Lake Oku by planting trees while marketing the potentials as resources to promote sustainable ecotourism even though many community members did not see the need for environmental protection and the protection of endangered species especially those who were hunters. But we persisted in sensitizing the community on the importance of carrying out sustainable activities on our environment. In 2014, we got peace corps volunteer from Germany – Ghangela Jones to build and energize the agricultural sector. For her two years with our organization, our achievements were great as she introduced us with many programs such as soya beans delight programme. In this light, indigenous women were educated and trained on how to cultivate and transform soya beans into nutritive products like milk, meat(tofu), flour. This was seen as an income generat

ing activity and at the same time a way to increase the nutritive value of food for healthy living in the Oku community and by extension Cameroon. Still in the agricultural domain, the AkehMbororo Women Cooperative Initiative was created with the objectives to engage indigenous in organic sustainable agriculture using cow dung as manure enrich the soil and ensure organic gardening. This has greatly empowered the AkehMbororo woman in her community. SOPISDEW has always been working in line with the MDGs and now SDGs to fight against zero hunger , reduce poverty level, ensure the right for education to children , to ensure environmental protection just to name these few.

For environmental protection, members of the community with the help of our organization were encouraged plant PrunnousAfricana . Over 3000 of this plant were planted to protect the environment and at the same time generateincome and contribute in the fight against climate change. Thanks to SOPISDEW, 3600 trees were planted in all the 36 villages in Oku to fight draught soil sustainability. These trees are also very medicinal today. Our priority is to build a friendly environment suitable for every body and at the same time empowering people’s abilities. We are proud of our achievements.
